Short Story Contest Submission

OK, I did it. The short story submission in on its way. I can't say anything else about it, because I don't want to identify the contest in any way at this point.

I will say that I used a couple of adverbs... currently a big "no-no" in literary circles. Sigh. I'm not willing to throw all adverbs out of the English language. The story will be good enough, or not.

If anyone reading this would like to know more and possibly submit something, leave a comment and your email and I'll get you the info.

That does sound interesting. And I have to admit, I simply loved your little "rant" about using adverbs. Of course, we have to be free to write the way we feel we have to. There are stories that ask to be written in a flowery style, with loads of adjectives and adverbs. And there are others that demand to be written in short, brisk sentences, with no other verbs than "to be" and "to have". We make a point by the style we use. It's no good saying "he is sad and blue" when we can express the same thing, and much better, by decriptions, the choice of negative adjectives, by creating a mood, an atmosphere. I wish you the very best for your short story submission. You'll keep us updated, I hope?
